It has been confirmed that the Scottish Government’s Housing Minister will next month visit the West Highlands on a fact-finding mission, says the constituency MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch.
Earlier in the year Kate Forbes MSP asked Kevin Stewart to come to her constituency and to see what can be done to progress affordable housing in the Highlands – an invitation which was accepted.
Ms Forbes understands that Mr Stewart will visit the Isle of Skye and Fort William on Tuesday 21 August, with final arrangements to be announced in due course.
Kate Forbes MSP said: “One of the last things I did as a backbench MSP was invite the Housing Minister to my constituency.
“We all know how much pressure there is on affordable housing in the region and the ever increasing gap between average incomes and average house prices in the Highlands.
“This has a knock-on impact on recruitment and retention of employees.
“I’m pleased that not only will the Minister be visiting the constituency but that he’s going to see as much of it as possible.
“The issues are similar but this will enable him to meet as many people as possible which I welcome.”
